Dr. Tatar has been a practicing psychologist in the Capital District since 1985. He has worked in a variety of settings including outpatient mental health services, hospital mental health services and New York State agencies. He has also been involved in private clinical practice since 1988. Dr. Tatar’s clinical interests and experience have included individual psychotherapy with adults, older adolescents and seniors. Specialization areas include depression, anxiety disorders, trauma, grief, loss and coping with serious medical problems. Dr. Tatar has conducted Critical Incident Stress Debriefing groups for individuals who have experienced severe trauma and/or loss. He has also conducted groups for emergency service personnel such as emergency medical technicians, first responders, correction officers and firefighters experiencing line of duty deaths or other severe trauma and crisis situations.
Dr. Tatar has also provided psychological service to law enforcement and corrections agencies and their members. Services include psychotherapy for police and correction officers, pre-employment psychological screening evaluations, fitness for duty evaluations and post trauma counseling.
Dr. Tatar earned a BA degree in Psychology and Studio Arts from the University of Rochester. He has a Master’s and Ph.D. degree from Syracuse University. Dr. Tatar has also completed advanced training in Clinical Psychology from Adelphi University.
